One of the most iconic sportsmen of the 20th Century, Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea) has been adored by children and adults for more than four decades. Whether for his acting, music or professional wrestling, Hulk Hogan has been loved, hated, admired, and worshiped.

Who is Hulk Hogan?

Hulk Hoganwas born Terry Gene Bollea August 11, 1953. Hulk Hogan is possibly the most famous professional wrestler of all time.

As a child, he began his commitment to sports as a baseball pitcher after his family moved to Tampa, Florida. He was so impressive that scouts from major league teams watched him closely, but an injury ended his dream of playing professional baseball.

Supplementing his baseball career, he played bass guitar. Hogan was a member of many bands throughout his life including performing bass as a professional wrestler. His music appears on the WWF album titled The Wrestling Album.

In 1977, Terry began wrestling professionally. In 1978, he joined Ed Leslie (who would later become famous as Brutus Beefcake) forming a professional tag team known as The Boulder Brothers (Terry and Ed Boulder). Not long after, Terry was compared to Lou Ferrigno who played The Incredible Hulk on television. Because Terry was bigger than Ferrigno, he started calling himself Terry " The Hulk." (He also occasionally wrestled under the name Sterling Golden.)

He joined the  World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1997. Owner Vince McMahon wanted Terry to use an Irish name, so he gave him the name Hogan. Thus was born Hulk Hogan.

Hogan appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, multiple appearances on David Letterman shows, and he hosted Saturday Night Live.

In addition to being a wrestler and musician, Hogan is also an actor. He first appeared on film in 1982 against Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) in Rocky III. Other notable acting appearances included his own Saturday morning cartoon titled Hulk Hogan's Rock and Wrestling, a major motion picture titled No Holds Barred, and he made other film and television appearances.

In 1998, Hogan announced his retirement on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Hogan has returned to wrestling several times since including winning the WWF Championship again for a very short run. As late as 2018, Hulk Hogan is still involved in professional wrestling.

While Hogan had wrestled almost seven years prior to 1984, his first notable match was a victory WWF Championship match against The Iron Sheik in Madison Square Garden. It was here many believe "Hulkamania" was born.

• 1985: Hogan defends his title against Russian villain Nikolai Volkoff.
• 1985: Hogan teams up with Mr. T to take on "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff.
• 1986: Hogan defeats King Kong Bundy in a steel cage match during Wrestlemania.
• 1987: Hogan defends his title against undefeated Andre The Giant, body-slamming the 520 pound Giant.
• 1988: Hogan again wrestles Andre The Giant and loses his title due to a controversial call by a WWF referee.

• 1993: Hogan tag teams with old friend Brutus Beefcake and wins the Tag Team Championship by defeating Money Inc.
• After the Tag Team match, Hogan defeated WWF Champion Yokozuna for his fifth WWF Championship.
• During the King of the Ring event, Hogan defends against Yokozuna and loses his fifth title.
• 1994: Hogan leaves WWF and joins WCW (World Championship Wrestling) and defeats Ric Flair for the WCW Championship.
• 1995: Hogan loses the title in a disqualification match, and the title is announced vacant.
• 1996: In a sixty-man three-ring Battle Royal World War III event, Hogan lost to The Giant.
• Later in the year, Hogan attacks Randy "Macho Man" Savage to become a villain for the first time in 15 years. Hogan forms nWo (New World Order).
• Hogan defeats The Giant to retain his WCW Championship title.
• Throughout 1996 and 1997 Hogan would lose the title off and on to Sting.
• 1997: Hogan loses his fourth WCW Championship to Goldberg.
• 1999: Hogan retains the fifth WCW Championship against Kevin Nash. Hogan loses the title yet regains it one final time against Randy Savage for his sixth and final WCW Championship. On Oct 24, at Halloween Havoc, Hogan arrives at the ring to defend his title against Sting, lays down in the ring for a count, and loses the WCW title for the final time.
