Seven Reasons You Should Watch “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”

Scott Pilgrim vs the World is one of the movies that did not do tremendously well at the box office, but managed to redeem itself on home video. Actually, the movie made considerably less than its production budget, and some even considered it a disappointment. But, not Universal, they knew it was an excellent movie and they stuck to their guns, no matter what The Wall Street Journal or anyone else had to say about it. And, rightfully so, although the movie did not impress with earnings, it got pretty rave reviews and even an 81% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and that’s not easy.

Ok, so I told you I had seven reasons to watch this film, and here they are:

Reason number 1: Edgar Wright i.e. Shaun of the Dead and The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy. He directed this movie brilliantly making you feel connected to the characters and had you pleasantly lost in the movie.

Reason number 2: The ultimate battle for love. Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) met the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Except there was just one tiny, little hic-up...she came with 7 evil ex-boyfriends, otherwise known as “The League of Evil Exes”. Oh yeah, and they all had to be defeated.

Reason number 3: The music. Scott Pilgrim played in a band call “Sex Bob-omb”, which Scott (Michael Cera) played the bass and spent real time with his movie band mates rehearsing. And, the music they played was written and composed by Beck. The music throughout the whole movie was a perfect compliment to the artistic integrity that this film brought. It didn’t hurt that they even threw in some music from The Legend of Zelda video game.

Reason number 4: A graphic novel turned video game turned movie. I think I am in love. The perfect trifecta for any fan boy’s perfect movie. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World started off as a graphic novel with intention to become a full length feature film and was released as a video game a few days before the movie premiered. One of the many awesome features that this movie brought was that watching the movie was like playing a video game. Again, we go back to the genius of Edgar Wright, in successfully making a movie that feels like a video game...or a video game that feels like a movie...or a...

Reason number 5: An excellent cast. Scott Pilgrim, played smoothly by the cool, calm and pretty awkward Michael Cera, may be considered by some to be a one trick pony with his acting skills, but let me assure you, it is his best trick and he does it well. Chris Evans as one of the evil exes, Lucas Lee, was fun to watch and Jason Schwartzman as the leader of “The League of Evil Exes” stole just about every scene he was in.

Reason number 6: It was one of the feel-good fun to watch movies of 2010 that can still be watched over and over again and never get old. It combines humor, action, and strangeness in a way that appeals to even the harshest of movie critics and will make you kick yourself for not going and seeing it in the theater.

Reason number 7: Because, I said so.
